Set in the depth of the mighty Himalayas in Nepal, where trekking trails wind through pine forests and prayer flags flutter in the wind, there’s a small stop (Langtang Valley), on the hilltop that travellers don’t just visit; they remember the food, they carry memories and they leave with a promise of coming back. It’s called Peaceful Bakery, and just like its name, the bakery offers something far deeper than just food. The name of the bakery seems apt as the views you get from here are soulful. But besides food and views, what stands out is the fact that the bakery is run by two deaf and mute people. Humble, trusting and cute people who welcome every customer with their whole heart and beautiful smiles. For many trekkers passing through these mountains in Langtang, the bakery is a must visit. People often recommend it to fellow trekkers saying, “great views,” “warm people”, “must-try apple momo”.
The video Travel creator Travis Fein (@travisfeintravel), during his hike in Langtang, also reached here and was pleasantly surprised with everything he saw and experienced here. He shared a nearly two-minute video which shows his conversation with the man and woman who run the bakery. What followed was an experience that quietly stayed with him.
As he entered, he greeted the owners with a cheerful smile and he said “Namaste.” What came next caught him off guard as the couple who run the bakery are both deaf and mute. What could have been a moment of awkwardness instead turned into something unexpectedly beautiful.
“I can’t hear,” the man indicated.
Then, with a smile, came a response that needed no sound: “Me also no hearing.”
And everything shifted quietly but beautifully. Words became gestures and expressions did the talking. Hand gestures, smiles, and willingness to understand was everything. Travis though continued talking, slowly, and wondering if they could read his lips.
He says, “It’s weird I am talking to them but maybe they can read my lips.”
Meanwhile, the couple guided him through the menu, happily appreciating his choices with thumbs up and smiles. Words failed here and smiles did the talking. He ordered carrot cake and ginger lemon tea, to which the couple indicated “good choice” with an encouraging nod.
But that’s not it. Around him, the bakery told its own story. There were beautiful, colourful handwritten notes, reviews from fellow travellers and trekkers. One dish common in all: Apple Momo.
Curious, Travis couldn’t help but order one for himself. And it was another “good decision” he made that day. The video captures the making of the famous apple momo. It looked crispy, warm and delicious, in Travis’s words, “10/10.”
The video has been appreciated widely. A number of people who commented wanted to know the location.
Location The bakery is perched on a hillside in Langtang. Travis also shared the location with one,
“it’s called peaceful bakery in Langtang valley but the only way to get here is a 7 hour bus from Kathmandu + trekking for 2 days in the mountains”
So yes, it is a long journey but it promises sweeping mountain views, crisp air, and a kind of stillness that’s rare to find. What stands out most, though, is the consistency of kindness. Reviews from trekkers across the world echo the same sentiment: welcoming hosts and incredible food.
At the end of the video, Travis points at the mesmerising views and shares his recommendation while finishing his meal and taking in the view.
